I'm producing my first fashion event, and it is to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This is a cause I support 100%, and here are a few reasons why...

*1 in every 8 women in the US will be affected by breast cancer.
*230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to arise this year, alone.

*Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the global leader of the breast cancer movement. Having invested more than $1.9 billion since its inception in 1982, Komen is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

It's amazing... the things you learn through networking. While leaving Mercedes Benz Fashion Week this past February in New York, I stopped in the Starbucks that's around the corner from Lincoln Center. I had to get out of the cold long enough to pack up all my freebie odds & ends, and I saw a women going through model/runway pictures on her laptop.

She was obviously one of the many photographers capturing MBFW moments, and I began to chat it up with her about where she'd been that week. She cued me into a new phenomenon in the fashion industry. She told me about the first androgynous model, who was debuted into the high fashion world that week at a show in the tents. I began to think...(Androgyny- the ability to look both masculine & feminine simultaneously) now Tyra has been talking about androgynous models since Top Model began, years ago, so I know this model is NOT the first!

But then, I became aware that the model she was speaking of was actually a male.... So, she was using this word, androgynous, in different context from where my mind was going. And yes, this is news- big news for fashion as I'm concerned. It may actually make it harder for female models to get work. Not only must they compete against all the other females in the game, but now against male equivalents! Wow. Furthermore, males may also have height/weight control in their favor. They, more than likely, won't have breasts, which makes them thinner...

Well, the only thing consistent in life is change! With that being said, I'm not surprised!
Without further ado, I present to you the first "Androgynous" model.

I forgot the name of the model and the show she walked in, but I'll figure it out later & update this post... maybe! But you see how she towers over the other girls in the show... major competition is budding in my opinion!

*In Caption: I will say that Tyra did have a male model compete on Top Model before; I don't think they used the term "androgynous" for her. I believe this is the first androgynous model to walk at NY fashion week, because we all know she's not the first. But this does show that the androgynous factor is becoming more acceptable in the fashion industry-similar to the 'plus size' model in my opinion.

Recess vs. Relief

I am in no position to judge, because I am just as guilty as anyone else. However, I want to send a wake up call to everyone in my grasp!

I woke up at 4:00 am, randomly, on Friday and just happened to take a peek at Twitter. The first tweet I saw was Paris Hilton commenting on the earthquake and tsunami that were taking place in Japan. From there, everyone learned of these events, and throughout Friday & Saturday we all wrote tweets to announce our condolences to the world... but is that enough. Our prayers are invaluable, but we can always do more.

Today, as I logged onto twitter & facebook, I realized that EVERYONE was talking about the Duke vs. UNC game and again, just like the Superbowl, the lives of so many Americans are being consumed by a sporting event. It's a pastime and stress reliever for many... I get it. I don't like sports, so I can compare it to a viewing of the Real Housewives of ATL or NY! lol

Since I am one of the few who are not into sports, I was able to reflect on what's happening in the world. And so a question came to mind. Today, right now on this leisurely Sunday afternoon, is it time for recess or relief?

Are we blinded, somewhat, as a country? Since the tragedy isn't happening directly to us, I think it's too easy to forget & move on to the next. It's so important for us to continue to keep the people that are facing these dynamic hardships in our prayers. If you can, it's dually important to reach out a hand to help. Anyone with a spare $10 in their pocket can support by going to redcross.org & donating to the relief efforts. I gave what I could, and no matter how little it may be, I urge you to do the same.

Last time I checked, the estimated death toll was 10,000. Let the Red Cross put your donation to work in communities affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

If not any other day, today is the day to be empowered! Know your strength and own it!

It's National Women's Day 2011, and we have come such a long way!

However, there is more work to be done. Our communities are still struggling, and we are not always treated equally, so I challenge YOU to make a mark in your city/state/country/WORLD. We are supreme beings, yet we haven't allowed ourselves reach our fullest potential. "Be the change you want to see."

As I grow as a woman, I am beginning to develop a passion for philanthropy. Pray for me, as I work in my community, that I can touch the life of another, & in doing so, bring about a positive change.

Furthermore, I encourage you to Go Red! Heart disease is the nation's largest killer, and it affects more women than you may think. Take charge of your life through awareness and prevention. Your heart will thank you later!

I personally LOVE the textures that were seemlessly worked into many pieces shown. The intimate, yet socially LIVE runway show definitely created a buzz of excitement among the crowd. I could feel the energy... could you?

Beauty?

One thing that is beautiful is courage. Courage to show your faults in order to encourage a positive path for another. Courage to bear your soul to the world... To me, there is so much beauty in strength & courage.

However, what is NOT beautiful is harming your body to achieve societal standards of beauty (i.e. ANOREXIA). Now that I can say I've worked backstage at several New York Fashion Week shows, I can attest to seeing bones bulging out of uncommon places on the bodies of the "beauties" who walk the runways, and also to hearing comments of how desirable it is to be that thin by intrigued bystanders. These are things I'd only heard of before, but actually witnessing someone say that they longed to have the thin, frail frame of the half-naked model whose spine I could literally see in it's entirety, was quite jarring to say the least.

There is a stigma that plagues a good bit of our society creating a negative image on what many doctors might say is a healthy figure/weight. Which is why I DO see beauty when I look at these anti-anorexia advertisements that were launched in Italy.

The images are scary & appalling, and they relay the point. This is not beauty, this is not ideal, this is a sickness. This is torture.

But I will NOT say that she, Isabelle Caro, lacks beauty, because she does have courage. Even if her reasons for doing this campaign ad were slightly selfish, (not saying they were) it is still an admirable act that has potential to touch someone's life.

Charlotte, NC Fashion Week

September has really been a busy month for me as a Fearless Passion aficionado! It began with the ultimate fashion experience, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (New York), and it's ending with memories of Charlotte, NC fashion week that I attended last weekend.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...Thank God for a press pass! I was, of course, covering CNCFW for Charlotte STYLE magazine! Check out the article I wrote, entitled Charlotte, NC Fashion Week Wrap-Up, here.

Needless to say, I've done a lot of great networking over the last month, and I've come up with a GREAT idea. I have something up my sleeve and I can't wait until it comes into fruition!!

Fashion's Night Out in Soho [Amongst a Sea of New Yorkers!]

Fashion's Night Out was great! Lots of energy in the streets of NYC! This is why I love that city. Never a dull moment. In the city where I reside, I only heard of one store participating in FNO activities, but there were so many options in NYC. It kinda made it hard to choose, but Soho was a no-brainer. Shops, and shops, and shops GALORE! The streets were flooded like it was New Year's Eve at Time Square. I actually had to wait in a line to get OUT of the subway...#Madness!

Once I met my party, we basically hopped from shop to shop. At first I was on the search for cocktails! I got there kinda late, so most stores had run out of them. Bummer. But I eventually found some!
First store was Prada. Even beyond the Swarms of people inside, I could feel the luxe-ness in the air ;)

Winter Wonderland by Prada!! While I was taking this shot, I was kindly told by a very large security personnel that no pictures were allowed to be taken. #YIKES! I quickly snapped and moved on ;)

We moved on to J. Crew, lots of boutiques, Michael Kors, Zara and the list goes on. Forever 21 had the best music. I heard from a few drunken friends that Nike had the best drinks. Open bar, I heard. I missed out on that one!

To conclude, FNO was really created to help bring business to retailers in the midst of this dreadful recession. Vogue's version of a bail-out plan, I guess! So, I'm proud to say I helped the fight by actually making a purchase! Steve Madden was giving away scratch off cards, and mine was for 40% off. Love my new ankle booties, and I've already gotten tons of compliments. Good purchase.

William Tempest Fashion Show {Backstage Exclusive!}

I got a last minute opportunity to work the William Tempest show at fashion week and I was so excited for another wonderful experience. William is another designer that I'd never heard of, but won't forget. His clothes were exquisite! This was his first showing at New York fashion week, and I have a feeling it won't be the last. He's already made ties with Victoria Beckham, a fellow Brit who has worn his clothes in the past. I definitely saw a few pieces in this collection with her name all over it!

I must note. One thing that was very different about fashion week this year at it's new location, Lincoln Center, is that some venues were for presentations and instead of runway shows. This particular show was a presentation set-up. The models basically rotated in still positions. Interesting, and I guess it worked for some designers, but for me personally...I don't think there's anything better than a moving garment on a lite runway. However, this may have been a less expensive alternative for newer designers or jewelry designers like one other presentation I worked. I miss Bryant Park, but there are some great things about Lincoln Center, namely the huge space and chic atmosphere.

Soft draping organza's and chiffon's meet structure in William Tempest's “The Sirens’ Song” collection. His designs were inspired by crustaceans of the sea and such. I will show in detail below!

Umm...let's begin with the make up, because it is too lovely to be overlooked! When I saw the models in make up backstage I couldn't see where they were going with this look, but I learned a while ago to never doubt a skilled artist! In this photo, the make up creates an ethereal siren/sea-creature look...I love it!

Now back to the clothes. The structure and shapes were great!

This was his show piece. → When I saw it on the rack, I said..."I'm dressing this model!" Secretly, I was just wishing I could wear it myself, but I since I couldn't, I did what I could! lol But, let's talk about the print. He did this print on several dresses in nude and coral. At first, I thought it was just some design, but if you look closely you'll see how it's tied to the theme of the collection.

The print is a woman's form with crab-like claws. They really put some thought into achieving this theme. I think it's kinda cool! Not just some digital print.

And on to the draping. He did a few jumpsuits that were pretty gorg!

Backstage was actually a bit relaxed, at least for a fashion show, but I guess the lack of runway show made things easier.

Me backstage during the show....I was a little fatigued from the 5:30 AM call time and the 1 1/2 hours of sleep I'd gotten the night before! All in the name of fashion!

New York Fashion Week [Through my eyes!]

So, I've taken my precious time to do a fashion week post, but I was definitely in the building so my experiences must be shared!

Let me begin by saying that this time around, I really began to notice how anal and sometimes even ridiculous "fashion people" can be. However, I do understand that people are super tense because they are resting tons of money on less than 15 minutes! In short, everything had to be PERFECT!! AND, some random person (or persons) is always there to put in their two cents because of their silly little position/status/rank! lol

I worked 4 shows and got to attend 1 as a guest, so fashion week was pretty eventful and fun for me!! The first show I worked was "Edition" Georges Chakra. I'd never heard of this designer before, but after witnessing his work, I'll never forget! I expect to see at least one of his gowns on a red carpet next award show season! Check it out some of my favorite looks↓

I loved the weaving he did on the bodice of most of the dresses. On the runway, these dresses came ALIVE as the fabric flowed like water. It was so gorgeous! The colors were great. I only had 1 issue, and that was with the last gold dress on the left. The woven bodice was thick, and the loose flowing fabric at the bottom hung like dead weight a little off of it...I would still wear it any day, though! ;)

I also worked the Prabal Gurung show. Very interesting. I almost freaked when Rachel Zoe walked in, but luckily the "groupie"thing isn't my style! I was working after all... The show was full of lots of little chic dresses, feminine suits, and a few separates. There was lots of texture, but the photos don't really do the clothes justice. Maybe the white runway background wasn't the best choice for this particular show, but here are some looks.

I love how he used the graphic print that you see in coral above to the right. He used this print and one other blue print on several dresses. Gorgeous nude/gold suits and tailored, yet feminine trench coats were seen and loved as well!

What I want...What I NEED!!!

I have been an absent blogger for quite some time now, and I thank you all for continuing to follow!

I must say that my absence has not been in vain, though! I have been one busy little bee! It's no secret that I love fashion, but I would like to announce that I love wardrobe styling as well. {Who coulda guessed?!} I have gradually been building my styling portfolio of late. I have a good group of people that I work with from time to time, and I'm constantly trying to build networks with people to expand my horizons! I have also started writing for a local fashion magazine--very exciting! Recently, I've been asked to write for another magazine as well, so we'll see how that goes!

In short, beyond my full time job, I've been Fearlessly pursuing my Passion! Fatigue is setting in, but I won't settle until I'm where I want to be!

Anyway, my shopping addiction has not been resolved, in fact, it has moved into the electronic arena. One thing I feel is imperative in my life right now is a new camera!! Especially after working on photo shoots, I need and want some of my own footage that a photographer can't or won't give to me! Of course, it's 2010 and I, like everyone else, have a digital camera...but it just won't cut it anymore!! I want to get a camera that leans towards the professional field...with the extended lenses and such. I want more clarity and quality!! This is the camera I have in mind. It's a pretty penny, but it's nothing in comparison to the best of the best cameras out there (price-wise). The Nikon P100

These are great for price I'm willing to pay. I want great pics and I'm artistic by nature, but I'm not a photographer and I won't cut a hole in my savings to pretend to be one! lol

Also, I'm in L-O-V-E with the iPad...I need one. They are so convenient for a writer such as myself. I'm always lugging around my laptop and that can't be great for my back!
Light weight, and full of cool stuff!! I NEED ONE.

Activewear gone chic...Humph, who woulda thought?

Actually, I've been on the HUNT for fashionable activewear, and let me tell ya...it's quite hard to find! However, I ran across a fairly new line by Fornarina, Sportgalm, and it seems to be a step outside the norm!

If you have a minute to spear, check out the Fornarina Sportglam Fashion Show. It's a bit long! The actual clothing doesn't come out until about 6 minutes in, but it is quite entertaining all the way through...

So to say the least, I am quite intrigued by this take on activewear! However, there is a DILEMMA!!

Fornarina is an European-based brand. It is sold internationally, but nowhere in my state (for retail). I found some Sportglam shoes online, and they are perfect for what I need, BUT there is only 1 size left! Not my size. Smh! Fornarina needs more vendors in my area.

Either way, I'm glad to see a brand that brings a little flair to activewear! ;)

My Natural Hair Debut

Shortly after January 2, 2009, the date of my last relaxer, I began what many women in the African-American community refer to as the natural journey!

This journey is the transition from using chemical straighteners/relaxers to revert back to the natural state of the hair, which I might add is NOT straight by any means. LOL!

Why, you may ask, would I make this decision? Despite the obvious reason of "getting back to my roots, or embracing my heritage," I decided to go natural because relaxers were burning the CRAP out of my scalp every month or so that I had to get one. I am an ingredient freak, and I just didn't feel comfortable allowing those harsh chemicals to seep and tear into my scalp as often as they did. I was also digging the curly style of natural black hair, and I wanted to enjoy the options that our hair provides (curly, straight, wavy, braided, etc.).

My hair is now fully natural (no relaxed ends) and I have the opportunity to wear it natural, but I have yet to do so. I'm just not sure it's for me, and I haven't taken the time to experiment with different styles.

This is me on an average day; hair blown out and flat ironed.

I was in the process of washing my hair the other day, and decided to stop and do a mini (homemade) photo shoot!! Time to show off my natural locks...online if nowhere else!

So, it seems fashion (or clothing rather) is becoming less & LESS relevant in fashion magazines. Of course, sex sells, but I'm sure that in the tail end of the current "recession," designers and retailers can find more than bare nipples for fashion magazines to sell.

I do realize that many fashion magazine spreads are about creating/portraying a particular look, theme or mood, and I suppose some looks are better achieved through the addition of partial nudity. However, when I see pictures like the one below... it gets to be a bit much (for me).

Call me prudish, but if I can decipher which bikini design the model chose, I begin to feel like I'm looking at Playboy, not V magazine. I mean this girl had a 25 page spread, and her nipples were featured in most.

In short: I think nipples have become the next best accessory in fashion. Hope you have yours ready for next season! LOL

There is a fashion & photography festival each year in Hyères, France. It recognizes emerging artists such as designer, Tsolmandakh Munkhuu, whose 'BlackFace' collection showcase received great reviews despite its controversial presentation. Check out the looks, and more importantly, the models here.

Though this type of body painting has been offensive to African Americans in the past, I don't take it as an offensive gesture, but rather a use of artistic expression and vision. It is still a little jarring at sight, but I honestly think it adds to the collection.

It makes the models looks like zombies, or of evil nature. Or maybe a black Avatar...LOL. I'm reaching!

Well...Hello Blogger Friends!!

I have been M.I.A. for quite some time, and for various reasons, but I couldn't resist blogging today because there is something that must not go unheard/un-read via Fearless Passion!!

I was running around today looking for a pair of cotton shorts, so I stumbled into Target!! And, OH MY!! To my surprise, I saw the Zac Posen for Target collection. Now I was aware that Zac was doing a line for Target, but I had no idea it had already launched, and moreover, would be in MY Target in MY city!! Yay!! The line looks great! If you haven't seen it yet, visit the lookbook.

Zac did NOT just throw some cheap fabrics together and staple his name on it! He really went IN on this Target collection, and it shows. I fell in love with the dresses, because I am a dress-a-holic!! There were also some tuxedo-style trousers that looked great. I may have to go back and get those for work :) I bought one of the dresses!! I was looking over the dress, trying to find where Zac cut costs to keep his design esthetic for a bargain shopper. Well he didn't spare costs on the invisible zipper, which I could barely find, or the cool print designs. I did notice that he surged the hem and sleeves on the dress. The fabric is polyester, which would probably be silk in his designer line. It still looked great!

The prices are reasonable for the most part, however, there is a DOPE red leather&suede jacket priced at $199. I also saw two intricately designed dresses that were in the $69-79 range. A little high for Target, but hey, you WILL get what you pay for!!

In conclusion, Zac Posen gets an A++ for his collection for Target. One of the best...up there with Christian Siriano for Payless!!

S.N.> While we're on the subject, Target didn't have what I was looking for so I went to Wal-Mart. I rarely go there anymore, because Target is just wayyy better!! I ran into Miley Cyrus' collection for Wal-Mart....Not bad for a Wal-Mart collection. That is all I will say about that!

When I splurge on something cool, and then see an imitation at some store like Forever 21!!

Now, I am a true frugalista, meaning I know a good bargain and I take advantage of them regularly!!

However, I also like quality in my clothing, so I try to find deals on nice things.

Lately, Nordstron has become one of my favorite stores. I was there yesterday....impulse shopping!!

A few months ago, I purchased these babies at Nordstrom.

They look great on, and it's a great shoe for bar-hoping, clubbin, or just a fun night out!

They were approx. $85 on sale. Usually I won't pay that much for a Jessica Simpson shoe, b/c you can get them at Marshalls and on sales at Department stores, like Macy's. However, I really wanted them so...purchased : )

When I was in NY for fashion week, I made a trip to Century 21, which has discounted designer clothing and such.... I saw the same shoe for approx. $68. Wasn't too upset, because by that time I had mine for a couple months.

THEN, the other night I was at a local mall and decided to stop in Charlotte Russe, a store similar to Forever 21 or Wet Seal. I don't usually shop Charlotte Russe because I know 1.) a lot of things don't meet my 'quality' standards & 2) I know that a lot of girls shop there, and the last thing I wanna do is be running around in something everyone has or everyone knows where I got it! Ya dig? No offense to Charlotte Russe shoppers. I did buy some bracelettes from there, and I shop Forever 21, but you get my drift!

Anyway while I was there I saw these...

This is Charlotte Russe's version of my Jessica Simpson shoe (in white). UGHHHHhhhh!!
At FULL PRICE, they are only $14.99 or $29.99 (I can't remember!).

Grrrrr! Makes me mad! I can just see me out and some lil' girl saying "Cute shoes! Did you get them from Charlotte Russe?" My reply would be: "Umm...NO!"

I mean the Charlotte Russe version is OBVIOUSLY not leather, or of the same quality as my Jess. Simp's, but some people can't tell the difference!

Ok so you know that clogs were a major trend via Chanel.

Clogs can be done cute & quirky as seen in the Chanel show, but in the wrong hands they can go SO wrong. Unfortunately, many of us have the wrong hands for clogs. I am not feeling this trickled-down version of clogs that were displayed in the Teen Vogue March issue.

Icky, Icky, Yuck, Yuck!!

Please stop the madness. Clogs are NOT cool... especially for Spring...especially when they are made of rain boot material and are purple with polka-dots!

I think the Chanel clogs are cute, and the high heels make them more fashionable!

What has happened in this Teen Vogue issue, however, is that people saw this runway trend and it is now trickling down to ready-to-wear and moderately priced versions. During the trickle-down process, designs are often altered. I'm not feeling these alterations.

Please don't fall for the idea that clogs, just any kinda clogs, are cute just because they are 'trendy' right now. If you find some that are actually nice....work it out & more power to you. BUT, please don't fall victim to this trend.

You must be bold to wear one, though. So many of us hide behind the safety of our hair. If we don't have enough, we add more. To cover most, if not all of the hair, and reveal the features of the face is a bold move. It seems now, however, the modern girl's turban is worn with her hair down in the back or showing in some way. Us modern girls love our locks!

Well McQueen's funeral was yesterday, Thursday February 25. After seeing the pictures...I know it's REAL....it has really set in....it is a tragedy.

A Stunning Black History Moment

I have much appreciation for this month called February! It is, after all, the month I decided to grace the world with my presence. It is also Black History Month.

I was watching 'Introducing Dorothy Dandridge' last night on LMN, and thought "what a great representation of Fearless Passion in our black history!"

Oh, and what a glamorous BEAUTY icon!

Dandridge broke down several barriers in the entertainment industry. She scored the leading role in the first all black cast production, Carmen Jones. From that role, Dandridge was nominated for Best Actress in the Academy Awards. She was the first black woman to receive this honor.

With her success, also came many struggles. She dated the producer of Carmen Jones, Otto Preminger, and it was a troubled relationship. I don't know why she dated him. He was NOT attractive, but I guess it was because of his power and persuasion. See them below with Dorothy's sister Vivian on left.

She had many successes in life, but at the peak of her stardom, her life quickly became very troublesome and ended with an untimely demise.

After watching her story, and reading this excerpt, I have gained much more admiration for Dorothy Dandridge. When you look at someone so famous and beautiful, you tend to think they have it all. That their life is as close to perfect as possible. Sometimes this is true, but in some cases they are suffering with their own personal battles that extend far beyond our imagination. God bless her soul...

My Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Experience (Giveaway inside!)

It was AMAZING!!!

I worked about 6 shows; would have done more, but I had to leave NY half-way through the week.

I'm happy that my 1st NY fashion week was the last at Bryant Park. Makes it even more memorable.

It was really interesting to see what all goes into the prepartaion, set-up, and dismantling of a larger scale fashion show.

I swear I haven't done that much physical labor in a while. Carrying heavy stuff, running through the cold to deliver stuff, making sure people are where they are supposed to be and not where they aren't, lifting, tearing, and more. All in all, it was physically draining, but mentally inspiring!! Met a lot of great people. I was constantly walking by celebrities like they were just average joes. Didn't have much time to talk, and...really I'm just NOT into the groupie thing!! It was funny to see how celebs interact though. One thing I learned from body language alone is that Wendy Williams does NOT like Kimora Lee Simons....LOL!!

One show that I wasn't expecting much from, but ended up loving was Lacoste. We all know Lacoste as the classically chic clothing line with LOTS of polos!! I was thinking I was gonna see a bunch of reconstructed polos or something, but the show was pretty good. The first few looks were head-to-toe cream/colorless. The clothes were cute but the color pallete was blah. But then BAM; Color! Pink, red, teal, blue, yellow. It was gorgoeus, and I liked the flow/progression of looks ; )

Color blocking...I also saw that trend in the BCBGMAXAZRIA collection, done differently of course!

If you've been reading my blog you know that just a few posts ago I was saying how McQueen my take Louboutin's spot for best footwear (In my eyes). He's been doing some GREAT work lately, but that's not to say that his body of work is anything less than extrodinary.

There comes a time in every TRUE fashionista's life when she experiences her first New York fashion week. There will be many more to come in her lifetime, but this is a time she will hold dearly in her heart and remember forever. Well, that time has come for this fashionista, and I AM SOOOOO EXCITED!!

Things didnt really work out the way I planned, but I had my plane ticket to NY already, so I was coming anyway, and determined to make this trip successful! Finally I got a gig, and I began working in the tents today because of my dertermination and drive!! I didn't know if my plan to work at fashion week would actually come into fruition, but you know how the fashion world is-->>Busy and UNpredictable. And you know how I am-->> Fearless Passion

Fashion week officially starts tomorrow! Do expect to hear more : D

In other news, I'm so in love with NY, I'm just happy to be here again. However, this snow is NOT cool! Slipped several times today, but I have yet to fall. That's all that matters ; )

As we have been noticing for the last few years, designers are slowly but surely catching on to the economic-friendly pricing trend. Though it's sad, high-end fashion designers just don't have the clientele they used to have, and they must follow their customers if they want to stay in business.

The latest fashion victim is Narciso Rodriguez. He recently announced that he will be launching an eight piece collection for eBay. It will include dresses, t-shirts, cotton jackets, and a coat (??among other things I assume??). The prices will range from $75-$350. "I've never sold anything at these kinds of prices," Rodriguez told The New York Post. "This gets my work to a wider audience."

We'll see what happens with this, but I have a question. Why eBay?? I mean who does that and why? Doesn't seem like the image I would want associated with my brand if I were a designer of his stature. "Rodriguez and eBay declined to discuss terms of their pact. But eBay spokesman Alan Marks portrayed the auction site as an outlet for designers looking to increase their distribution and appeal on more favorable financial terms." -NY Post

The line will be available Feb. 15.

In other news, I'm intrigued about this designer's 'scale-down into mainstream' collection! Sonia Rykiel for H&M. The clothes are bright and spunky with a french vibe. Above all, I really love the model they chose to represent the brand. Her hair is EVERYTHING!! Rykiel already has a lingerie line at H&M, and on Feb. 20 her clothing line launches in its stores.

Apparently, H&M is the place to go for designers looking for alternative means of marketing in these recessionary times. Many designers have collaborated with H&M, and accordingly their business is booming. Well, maybe not booming; I don't think any retailers are bragging about profits right now! However, H&M's net-profits for the 4th quarter of 2009 rose by 20.9%. Pretty good! We all love a fashionable bargain. Still wishing they had a store close to my city, but oh well...I'll make it there next time I visit NY or ATL. ; )

I mean seriously, I wish my blog was on the level that hers is on! At the tender age of 13, Tavi has received some great opportunities in the fashion industry. She collaborated with many establised fashion brands such as Rodarte for Target.

I have secret on her though!!!

She hasn't made a post recently and it's because she was asked to cover the PARIS Haute Couture shows, which are happeneing now, for POP Magazine!

That would be a dream for me!! Seriously, I feel like a slacker hearing about stuff like this!

Milan: Men's Fashion Week Fall 2010

Yay! My first post on men's fashion! It's about time, but hey, girls have so much more pretty things to view and talk about!!

Men's Fashion Week in Milan just ended and I wish I was there!!

One major trend I noticed was that men are tucking thier pants into their boots, kinda like women. This is a trend that can easily turn androgenous or even feminine because you kinda have to wear fitted pants. Some of the pics below even look like the guys are wearing tights.

Chris Brown, seen here, was in Milan for the shows. He obviously got the boots memo, but I'm only in love with his look form head to knee. This shows that your pants must be moderatly fitted. Chris: You can't mix your urban-style baggy pant with those slender boots. Doesn't flow to me, but overall I like his outfit. You know what they say; When in Milan.... tuck your pants into your boots! LOL

Today I reviewed the Ralph Lauren Spring 2009 runway looks.

Overall, I was underwhelmed (Michael Kors voice)!

I will always have much respect for the Ralph Lauren's clean cut, all-American style. The show was very fitting of the Ralph Lauren brand image, HOWEVER, I feel like I've seen some of the looks before. Yes, I know fashion always repeats itself, but there is always something new added to breathe life into the old.

This look in particular just struck a nerve.

I feel like I've seen this exact look on this exact MODEL in a RL spread in a fashion magazine years ago.
IDK, I'm sure there are some new elements to this year's suit (maybe the pin-stripes), but I'm feeling like déjà vu.

Furthermore, this dress is the perfect combination of innovation and catastrophe!

I do commend RL for thinking outside the box. They took the concept of the blue jean overall and made an evening gown. I don't like it tho!! I mean WHO is gonna wear this? I don't see this making it to the red carpet, and if it does I forsee 'worst dressed winner'!!

There were some nice looks in the collection, but the show had some true BLAH pieces in my opinion. I'm hoping RL's Fall 2010 collection is full of innovation and fabulousness ; )

Tonight was another GREAT networking event!!

I attended the Fashion & Style Industry Mixer, which was hosted by Charlotte Style Magazine.

It was a chic yet intimate event that brought the Charlotte fashion industry together to mix and mingle!

In attendance were models, designers, marketers, pr, stylist, etc.

and of course...ME!!

I almost didn't go because I was taking the most perfect nap!

But I went. Glad I grabbed some business cards before walking out the door!

I was one of the last to arrive, and it worked in my advantage because they were doing a drawing for 2 $400 beauty bags.

I dropped my business card in the drawing box, and what do you know....the first winner pulled was MEEEEE!!!

Perricone MD is the only brand I recognized, but they all seem to be great products!! I love trying new things!!

The gift included lots of anti-aging products....but it's never too early to start fighting the aging process.

....well after you turn 20 at least!

My favorite item in the bag (so far) is the Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust shimmer powder eye shadow in Rose Gold.

Hello, I am a shopaholic.

Today I faced the dreaded curse of after Christmas/New Year's/end-of-season sales....

Need I say more.

I overspent, when I was supposed to be saving.

Of course I had to hit up Victoria's Secret for the semi-annual sale. Not mad at that because I needed some new bras ; )

Next was Express....I made it out safe, but almost fell for a dress that was 1 size to big for me.

Then came Guess. They are doing 50% already reduced items. So I copped a dress that was moderately expensive, but really cute.

Bought a jacket, headband, and some jeans at Forever 21.

Then I walked past Nine West. Wasn't gonna go in because by that point I had spent a little over my budget.

HOWEVER, I went in to see what was available....harmless I thought!

They were having the best deal on boots, and boots are my weakness(one of them)! I found a pair that were only $50. Great deal!

THEN I remembered that I had a store credit at home for $26.49. Went home and got it!

Came back to buy that pair of boots, THEN I realized that I was only spending $25 on the boots so I might as well get those knee-high boots that are $75 as well.

Upon completing my purchase, the salesman says "I proud of you for getting both pairs!" WHAT...really? Of course you're proud; I just moved product from your shelf. But no one really knows the trouble I'm getting myself into. I just smiled gracefully!

To end the story....I paid $110 for two pair of boots, which is a great deal. However, I spent $110 beyond my budget. Yea $110 isn't really that much, but it is in my situation. AND, this happens more than it should. Oh, and I really only went to the mall for the Guess dress and to visit Victoria's Secret.

I'M DONE WITH SHOPPING FOR A WHILE. Hopefully I can lay off for the rest of the month.

I wanna make a BIG trip in February, and it won't be possible if I don't stop shopping.

If I can't control this I'll be at Shopaholics Anonymous REAL soon. LOL!

My 2009 Beauty List

I was reading this month's Essence magazine, and it inspired me to do an post on my beauty products of 2009. I have been working at a beauty retailer for the past year and a half so I have been exposed to a lot of different products, and I have received a lot as gratis (free stuff!!). I am not saying that everything I will speak of is the BEST in the industry, as I have no statistics, but these products work well for me, and may be beneficial to you!

Let's start with skin care, as it is the foundation of beauty! I'll begin by saying I have slightly acne-prone skin, that is also very dry during the winter. My skin can also be sensitive, so I don't like to use a bagillion different steps in my skin care regimen. These are some of the favorite products of 2009, or rather the last six months!

*Exuviance is a great skin care line. It is very expensive though. I use the Antibacterial face wash b/c I have acne prone skin. However, I've been using Boscia Purifying face wash lately because it is a little less drying. Boscia is a natural, preservative free, skin care line, so I use it whenever possible. Both face washes remove make up well. I use DDF 5% Glycolic Acid face wash sporadically when I feel my skin is damaged. It's pretty strong, but the chemical exfoliant helps to smooth, tone, and de-wrinkle the skin.

*I use Earth Therapeutics anti-bacterial exfoliating pad while washing. Its help remove dead skin and any make up residue that doesn't come off when you just wash with your hands. Dermalogica's face brush also works well for exfoliating while washing.

*Moisturizers: Exuviance Evening Restorative Complex has AHA's and vitamins such as A & E. It moisturizes w/o the heavy or greasy feel. Murad Essential-C Daily Moisturizer has SPF 30 and gives good moisture. Mario Badescu protein night cream is good for REALLY dry or aged skin. I've been using it at night lately because my skin is so dry. It's has collagen & vitamin A.

*Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask is great for reviving the skin. It's tingles as it works at removing dull skin, adding moisture, and.

*Mario Badsecu drying lotion is a good spot treatment for acne breakouts.

*I always keep my Vitamin E oil on hand. I use anywhere that is dry or needs a boost!

*Almay has the best eye make up remover pads.

Now for the MAKE UP!! I love make up!! In the past, I was the type of girl who wouldn't wear much make up because I had great skin, and I felt like "why cake on make up everyday, and mess up my skin, when I don't even need it!" However, in recent years my skin has decided to breakout more often so I have acne scars, and also I work at a store that sells make up, so now make up is one of my BEST friends!! It's surprising how much a little make up can make you look so much better!!

*Pur Minerals foundation is my everyday best friend. Mineral foundation gives great coverage while allowing a natural look, and Pur is a good one to choose because it has great ingredients (15 SPF, Shea butter as the binder, etc.). Bare Minerals is also a good mineral foundation, but they don't have good colors for people of color (my opinion). It works best for people with fair to tan skin tones. On dark to deep tones, Bare Minerals can turn greyish and cake up on the skin.

*This Smashbox brush is the BEST feeling brush ever, and gives good coverage. It retails at $50, but I bought mine on eBay for $18.

*Sometimes I use the Bare Minerals Handy Buki brush.

*My Lorac eye & cheek palette makes for a great everyday look! I really only use the two middle shadows; the matte Burgundy on my crease, and the shimmery shadow above it on my brow bone.
*I LOVE Laura Mercier's bronzer!! It just gives my cheeks & nose a golden glow!
*Bare Minerals' new Flawless Definition Mascara is my everyday go-to lash enhancer.
It works well, but I love it because it is paraben free, and it's one of the few mascaras that is paraben free and easily attainable on the market.
*That is also a Bare Minerals flawless face brush. Though their brushes are expensive, they last forever.

These are some of my favorite FUN colors!

*Mac and Lorac have some of the best shadows for blending. Urban Decay also has really great shadows in terms of color choice and blending.

*Bare Minerals Prime Time eye shadow primer. Shadow primer is very important in eliminating creasing and rub off. Smashbox and Urban Decay also have great shadow primers!

*For those frugalistas on a budget, you must try NYX eye shadows. They have great colors!

*My electric blue mascara by Splash. It's about $5 and it shows up WAY better than any of the prestige line blue mascaras that I have tried!

*I love Too Faced and Urban Decay glitter liners. A little sparkle always adds to your night look!

Hair care is VERY important to me, and more so now because I'm growing my natural hair out as opposed to relaxing it, as I have done for years! It's truly been a journey, but I will have gone a year relaxer free on January 2! As you can imagine, my hair is tightly curled, so I blow it out straight once a week.

*I just started using Brut's Bees More Moisture Shampoo. I like it because it is sulfate free, and it adds great natural moisture!

*I use several conditioners. My favorite is Joico K-Pack. Joico is a great professional line, and the K-Pak line adds moisture and strengthens with keratin. This one in particular also really helps detangle, which I need!

*Because I have dry scalp, I use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair & Scalp Treatment between washing and conditioning. Tea Tree is great for the scalp/skin, and it gives a great cooling feeling!

*Hair treatment: Prueology is the TOP of the line in hair care, and this strengthening protein treatment is great!

*I'm trying Biosilk Silk Infusion as my blow dry serum. It's makes my hair slick enough to get my round brush through it easily when blow drying. (Also try Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum & John Freida Frizz Ease)

*CHI 44 Iron guard is great for heat protection when flat ironing. I've tried cheaper brands, but I like this one because it doesn't leave the hair feeling as if it has product on it.

*Ojon is a GREAT line. The Hydrating Styling Cream is one of my favorite products. It can transform tour hair from dry and frizzy to shiny and bouncy. I put it on dry when my hair needs some attention, but the directions say to use it wet before blow drying.

*Kenra is also a great professional hair care line, and their Shine Spray is great! I like it because it's weightless, allowing my hair to stay bouncy!

Well that was my beauty bag favorites review for 2009. I'm sure 2010 will bring much more!

I will definitely be adding NARS and Make Up Forever to my make up collection.

Ok, so this image was in the December issue of Vogue (you know, the FASHION magazine)! I'm just a little lost here! I'm not seeing much fashion. I guess the hunched shoulders look is getting a little old for models, and they are trying to create new posing techniques. LOL! This is just not it though! The model, Daria Werbowy, looks as if she cleansing herself in an O SO inappropriate way! And the guy behind her looks as if he's on a mission. What mission....IDK!!

Youtube SUCKS!!

I decided to take some time to read some of the blogs I follow today. Of course, most posts have some sort of live video...mainly youtube. GOSH, what is with all the stalling?? I mean, it's 2009, almost 2010! Why hasn't youtube perfected its systems to make video viewing more efficient? They need a better IT team! It shouldn't take 5 minutes to watch half of a 2:24 min. spot!! I'm very annoyed, technology really irks me sometimes.

On another note, I am very hurt to announce (if you don't already know) that actress Brittany Murphy died today of cardiac arrest at the YOUNG age of 32. Very sad. I feel emotionally connected, and I don't know why. I did really like her as an actress tho :(

Today is dedicated to her. If you haven't seen Uptown Girls, starring Brittany & Dakota Fanning....GO RENT IT! That is how I will remember her. Bright, bubbly, a little out of it, but someone you would want to get to know!

Is Steve Madden a Thief?

Turns out that Steve Madden's fashion forward designs aren't always original. The brand has been sued a SECOND time recently for copying designer shoes. That's just not right...LOL Can you tell the the original from the "alleged" copy??

I remember seeing these shoes in a magazine when they came out. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but these are the Balenciaga 'Lego' shoes from 2007.

On the left is Steve Madden ($99.95); right is Balenciaga ($4175).

Ridiculous.....

I remember wanting these shoes SO bad back when I saw them in that magazine. BUT....I knew I would never be able 2 afford them! The Steve Madden version isn't as cute when you put them side by side, but if I would have known of them in 07, I would have considered purchasing them!! NO LIE. Gotta get the look w/o breaking the bank!! But now I'm glad I didn't know. In retrospect, Steve Madden probably hurt Balenciaga's sales. Maybe...

CANAL ST. GOT BUSTED!!!!!

So, as you may know, the counterfeit industry heavily effects, not only the fashion and apparel industry, but our GDP/GNP (gross domestic/national product). I'm getting technical because I wrote a 15+ page paper on counterfeiting when I was in college. As I pull out the ol' flash drive, I'll give you some facts via 2007, LOL!

“Recent research show that a third of Americans admit to having bought counterfeit goods- most knowingly. We do it because fakes are a bargain” –Nick Higham
Average consumers are unaware that counterfeiting is linked to organized crime, and child labor.
US businesses lose $250 billion dollars each year due to counterfeiting.
“About 6 percent of world trade is counterfeit, and roughly 14 percent of the fake goods are sold online” –Cate Corcoran
“This is a major growth industry." The increasing criminal attraction is natural considering the relatively low costs for entering the market and for manufacturing goods. Profits are high, and getting caught carries far fewer penalties than most criminal activities,” says Raymond Kelly, New York City’s police commissioner.
Counterfeit apparel and accessory sales have been linked to terrorist groups like al Quaeda, Hamas, and Hezobollah.

OK ok, I didn't mean to bombard you with boring facts, but I'm kinda a nerd like that, and this subject is of interest to me!!

On to the point--->>On Tuesday morning, the NYPD raided a strip of 31 stores on the south end of Canal Street in NYC. The stores were searched, and all 'alleged' counterfeit merchandise was removed. The stores were allowed to re-open shortly after.

For those who haven't had the opportunity to visit, Canal St. is THE place to go for all counterfeit, fake, and probably even stolen merchandise. Mainly fashion goods like designer purses, shoes, clothes, jewelry, and fragrances. Now, everything isn't fake or stolen. You can also get good bargains on things like pashmina scarves, sunglasses, jewelry etc.

I remember my 1st experience on Canal St. this past September. It was quite thrilling!! I had been eagerly waiting to go, mainly to experience what everyone was talking about, but also to find a bargain! I don't condone any illegal activity, counterfeiting being a part of that. However, the excitement of finding something cheap and unique was my motivation. It's interesting to see the culture and ALL the people. It can be quite annoying though, walking down Canal, because of the "sellers." I'm referring to the people who probably just got busted!! There are at least 10 on every block, and they bug you! "Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Chanel," they repeat. The funny thing is that they can hardly speak English, but they can say Chanel!! They hold crummy looking cards with the pictures of all the counterfeit bags they have. IF you show interest, they take you around the corner and up an alley somewhere to show you the merchandise in private. Always looking out for the POLICE!!

My friend wanted some Gucci shoes, so were we taken into the back of a store and shown a variety of shoes. They were official. I suppose stolen, but if not, they were really good quality counterfeit! IDK. They were selling them for $90, and she haggled them down to $50, and THEN decided not to get them!

I think everyone should make a trip to Canal St. for the the experience if nothing else. Hurry up though, it might not be the same much longer! LOL, but honestly, I don't think counterfeiting or Canal St.'s business is going anywhere, anytime soon... Not until our country passes stricter laws for the crime.

Magazine Covers just ain't the same...

I've been doing a little reading lately.

Stumbled across this article on George Lois' views on modern-day magazines. Lois is a legendary designer, who was the visionary behind many of Esquire Magazine's iconic covers in the 60 &70's. 38 of his covers are in MoMA (Museum of Modern Art).

He basically believes that today's magazines have lost there uniqueness. That they are less focused on the art, and more on selling the issue by putting a celebrity on the cover. He thinks magazines should have more 'white space,' and less headlines on the covers. His words below.

“Why do you put all those cover lines on? They say, ‘Well, if I don’t get somebody interested in this one, I’ll get somebody interested in that one.’"

“They say, ‘People buy magazines to read, for information.’ Well, you buy a magazine not only for that but so you can have exciting visual experiences. They try to jam words and pictures on every square-inch of the page like they’re working on a Web site."

“Look at Vogue. Oh my God. Vogue and Harper’s once were very well designed magazines. I mean they were exciting to look at. You could not give a shit about fashion and be excited by the whole look of the magazine. You look at Vogue now: it’s not even designed. What a difference. You pick up a Vogue back in the days of [Condé Nast’s Alexander] Lieberman and those guys, and you look at it now, and it’s a disgrace."

This man is THE TRUTH. Look at his covers compared to today's covers.

I will go on to say that a lot has changed in the publishing industry since Lois' time.

Print media in general is struggling because today's technologically-advanced society is gravitating towards the Internet for literally everything. Editors MUST plaster headlines on the cover to grab the viewers attention. They want to bring the reader in, and cause impulse purchases at the newsstand. I bought a Cosmo issue, once,because the cover talked about dealing with men, and I was interested. I would not have bought a magazine at all had that issue not grabbed my attention. I was just standing in line at Walmart...ready to go!

Sidebar: I have been meaning to buy the Glamour issue above featuring Michelle Obama...mainly because she is so gorgeously gracing the cover.

I work at a store that runs a promotion with Instyle magazine. Taylor Swift is on the December issue, and Taylor Swift sells that issue. On many occasion, I've seen a mother-daughter duo say "Oh, is that Taylor on the cover?!!" Young girls light up when they see it. Grown women do too.

Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue magazine (for SO many year), spoke in the movie, The September Issue, of how she reacted to societal trends by using celebrities as cover models. She was ahead of the curve, and luckily so. American society is heavily rooted in the idea of celebrity lifestyle. No matter how much most of us hate to admit it, we want to live like a celebrity, we want to dress like a celebrity, we would love to be a celebrity (in general!). CELEBS SELL MAGAZINES, and that's just how it is.

I would love to be able to enjoy the artistry and design that magazines once offered, but we must move with the times. The only thing that really matters is the bottom line. Money talks, so I guess the 'white space' must walk!

So I went to this great event last night. The Red Pump/Red Tie Affair. It was a benefit for the Red Pump Project, which is an initiative focused on AIDS/HIV awareness in women and girls. The event encompassed live music, fashion, art, food, drinks, and NETWORKING!!! I'm still pumped up! Every time I have a good networking experience I leave motivated with a stronger passion to succeed!

It was decent, but I was completely unaware of how difficult it was to write an article. In college I was always complimented by my teachers on my writing. In response to a previous post on Dita Von Teese's amazing personal style, I wanted to give you some ideas on achieving her look!

I encountered a lot of great brands when I went to the MAGIC tradeshow earlier this summer in Vegas. There were two that I found very unique, and quite fitting of that old Hollywood glamorous look that Dita embodies.

Queen of Heartz
This is a company that designs and manufactures vintage inspired apparel. This is a GREAT idea. I did a post on vintage shopping a while ago (http://rareindulgence.blogspot.com/2009/07/vintage.html). It can be great, however it can be difficult to find what you want. Queen of Heartz gives you the luxury of vintage designs in brand NEW pieces. You don't have to worry about cleanliness or wear & tear! Designs below.

Very similar concept. Vintage inspired clothing. Bettie Page's looks, however, can read a little 'costumy'. They can be a little too literal. Some of the looks remind me of a chic Halloween costume. Others are very sophisticated! If you are looking for a pin-up or old Hollywood look---->>>Bettie Page is the brand for you! Designs below.

I love fruit because it's the best of both worlds. Healthy and it tastes great!

Recently I was eating some Kiwi, which is one of my faves, and I found out that it's a super food! 1 serving of Kiwi (2 kiwis) has more potassium than a banana, more vitamin C than 2 oranges, and more fiber than a bowl of bran cereal!! Isn't that great!!!! Maybe I'm just excited because I love the fruit so much! I get mine in bulk from Sam's Club, however, I purchase organic whenever I can from Earthfare.

One other fruit you should keep an eye on is the pomegranate. They are full of antioxidants and other nutrients to boost your immune system!! There is a rumor that the phrase "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" was originally about pomegranates... not apples. Blueberries are also high in antioxidants. I personally think blackberries are the best tasting berry.

Fanny Packs....Ewwww. Or not?

So I guess fanny packs are back.

OMGoodness. I just cringe when I hear or say fanny pack. Such an embarrassing trend of the 90's. As a matter of fact the 90's were just HORRIBLE when it comes to fashion. When people think about the 80's, they may be embarrassed about what they actually wore, but there was some true and daring fashion in the 80's. I love it personally. But the 90's... a mess! The 90's were a time when American style went truly casual. That's when casual Friday's began to really catch on in the workplace. Jeans were everything. American style really lost it's formality.

Back 2 fanny packs...are they back?

Well Louis Vuitton sure thinks so! I don't know how hard this trend is gonna hit, but I hope not too hard. I always flash back to the 90's when my parents took my brother and I to Disney World/Land...the one in Florida! It was a great trip! Every child should have the opportunity to go! However, my memories are tarnished with the thought of my mother wearing her fanny pack in the park. UGHHhhh! LOL. I love her, but that was just embarrassing. Not at the time, but looking back in pictures. I hate it!

Rihanna is rockin it tho. Leave it to her to pull this off, and the LV logo does hurt either! Ri-ri has great style in my opinion. I love that she isn't afraid to take risks. I think she looks great in the photo below. Shoulder pads + fanny pack + Rihanna= great look! Kinda makes me want one, I DARE say!

I just don't know about this. It kinda frightens me. I would hate it if middle-aged women see this trend arising again, and decide that it's ok to bring out their old fanny pack (circa 1993). That would be horrible. We'll see what happens!

Hello All!

I've been absent for a while, and wanted you all to know that I'm still alive (lol) and I missed my blog ;(!

I've been super busy moving across town. It's a huge job, but I'm glad that I'm finally settling into my new place!

Most of my clothes have been in storage over the summer, and I finally have all my clothes in one spot. GEEZ LOUISE, I never thought about how much STUFF I have!! I got rid of alot before I moved, but now I giving more of my clothes away. It's sooo hard. Even though I wouldn't be seen in some of my old clothes again, I'm emotionally attached. My clothes, shoes, purses, and jewelry...those are my BABIES!!

None the less, I gotta get rid of da old to make room 4 da NEW!! You know I have a shopping addiction, right? ;) I'm gonna sell what I can 2 a second hand shop, and give the rest 2 the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

SIDEBAR- Don't you just hate it when you sell something, that you've never worn, to a second hand shop, and they give you like $5 for it... Maybe that's just me, but I have a few pieces that I've never even worn and apparently am never gonna wear. Paid good money for it, can't return it, now gotta give it away or trade it in for whatever they'll give me... the pits!

Anyway, I've been doing some soul searching and constructing a master plan for my life. However, I'm back! Expect more from me, cause I'm expecting more from myself!

I am a writer for the Examiner!! Title: Charlotte Fashion Examiner!! It's not like I'm writing for Elle Magazine or even the local newspaper, however it is good industry experience for me.

I just completed my first article, and I'm so excited. A little too excited, don't know why!!

I got home from the event I was reporting on, and got right to work! I just realized I've been sitting here for hours without the TV on. That never happens. I always have TV, at least in the background. Just goes to prove that FASHION = MY PASSION. I was also really inspired because I made some great industry contacts tonight!

It is now 4:15 AM, and I am WIDE awake....AGAIN :(

I've always had issues with sleeping, but it seems pretty bad these days.

I'm under sooooo much pressure to succeed; its all I can think about. My mind pops from one idea to the next, and on to the next. Always wondering and trying to figure out how I'm gonna do this, and how I'm gonna do that. GEEZ LOUISE. I NEED SLEEP!!

And the pressure (to succeed) I speak of is coming from no one but myself. I just feel like I can't stay here. I HAVE to grow and progress. I must prove myself beyond the imagination of all those who doubt(ed) me. This life is so short, and how horrible would it be to reach the end and not have accomplished any of your DREAMS. Then sometimes I get scared that I won't succeed. That I will allow fear and/or laziness, or even lack of money, to hold me back from what I want. I guess it's true that the only thing to fear is fear itself. I mean WOW. I just gotta make something happen....MAN.

Now I gotta stress over sleep too. Does anybody have ideas about easing the mind and/or sleep remedy? Don't want to get into a cycle of taking sleeping pills. I really want to try acupuncture, but then again I feel like I should invest that money into my future... Who knows if it will work anyway. I will probably try it eventually though. Been thinking about it for a while.

Well... yea, I'm sounding like a definite 'head case' right now, but I feel a little better getting my thoughts out into the universe!

I love the 1940's, pin-up, sultry, classy style of Dita Von Teese (born Heather Renee Sweet). Makeup is always perfect. She rarely, if ever, caught looking bad. Unlike some celebs, who will remain nameless (Katie Holmes), Dita doesn't leave the house looking a hot mess. She keeps the elegance flowing. So today, I'm honoring Ms. Dita with the IvyLi Fashion Award for consistent personal style!

She is popular for being an exquisite burlesque entertainer, and for being married to Marilyn Manson (UGH). Now, she has some racy photos out there, and I'm not promoting nudity or adult entertainment, but WHEN she dresses, she dresses with great style!

This is classic 'old Hollywood' glamour with a modern touch.

I love that Dita embraces her porcelain-white skin. So many women torture their skin, tanning every week, and it's just not worth it. PSA: THE SUN (tanning in general) IS THE #1 CAUSE OF SKIN AGEING. Having golden brown skin today isn't worth looking 50 when you're 40. Ladies, take care of your bodies. Love yourself fully. I you are Caucasian/white, you should NOT have the same complexion as me. And YES I have seen this....

I've always wanted to wear one of those 'old school,' 'organ smashing!' corsets. I LOVE the looks it gives....but I don't see how breathing is attainable!!! Yikes.

My NEW Obsession

So, I was walking through the mall the other day, and decided to stop in Sephora (just to play)!!

Didn't think I was gonna see anything new, but I was wrong.

Make up Forever has come out with some new an AMAZING color palette. Honestly, it's probably not new, but I've never seen it before.

I'm speaking of the flash color case. It's got 12 in bright and brilliant FLASH colors that can be used in a variety of ways on the eyes, lips, or cheeks (the colors are in the form of cream). I'm going through a phase right now, where I'm really into color. I sooooo want this Flash palette, but it's $100. I'm not being cheap but GEEZ LOUISE!!! I just don't think it would be smart for me to pay $100 for some color. I really don't even know if I would use all the colors.

Sephora also sells the colors separately, and they have some DOPE colors that aren't in the case. Those are $18 each. I'm thinking I'll buy the individuals until I get all the colors I like. Its tough though. I really want the palette. What to do, What to do. Welp, I've added a DONATE section! Feel free to donate to the cause. I NEED MAKE UP....FOREVER!!! LOL

I have to get those pastels in the bottom right corner. The purple, periwinkle, and aqua (blue/green) are amazing!!! Those will be the first one's I get if I don't get the palette.

I can't believe it, but Jimmy Choo is doing a line for H&M. Actually, I can believe it! We're a recession and these BIG-WIG designers are beginning to cater to the more frugal crowd...like me, LOL!

Let me start by saying I ♥ H&M because they have affordable FASHION. It's bitter sweet though, (my relationship with H&M) I am not happy that there isn't a location in my state, however, I'm glad because I would drop too much cash their if it were so easily accessible!

The Spring/Summer 2010 Chanel show was anything but average.

My dear, Karl Lagerfeld, took Chanel on a hayride, and this was the result....

Umm..Yeah...OK. Ordinarily Chanel does a sleek white runway with ultra-chic designs. Now I'm not saying that Chanel shows are ever ordinary, because we all know that Chanel is one of the HIGHLIGHTS of Paris fashion week.

However, this was very different. I've been reading reviews, and I've come to the realization that Karl Lagerfeld can do no wrong in some people's eyes. I'll admit, he is a fashion genius. However, this didn't really add up to me. The only part of the collection that was connected to the barnyard were the clogs, and I think they only added the clogs to be able to use this theme. I feel Chanel was really reaching for a ways to out-do itself this year. None the less, I LOVED the clothing. LOVED those white jeans on that really skinny model. LOVED the jacket on the first model. Even with the forced theme, I thought the show was fun and exciting...wish I was there...SIGH

Hmmm, now that I think about it, maybe Karl was trying to relay the idea that fashion isn't to be taken SO serious. Fashion is fun, exciting, and different. It doesn't follow the rules. It's whatever you want it to be! Ah-Ha... my revelation!

So, I was riding in the car with my dad today, and he ALWAYS listens to NPR (National Public Radio).

Amidst listening to the boring BLAH, BLAH, BLAH of today's news, my ears perked up when I heard the word FASHION! The reporter even sounded surprised to be speaking on the subject!

The report was very interesting. Apparently, Germany's top fashion magazine, Brigitte, has planned to cease all use of professional models, and will only use 'REAL' women in the magazine's photo spreads next year. Brigitte chose to do this to separate itself from the 'rail-thin' image of beauty that we have all become accustom to seeing in every outlet of fashion. The magazine's readers have 'reportedly' been writing in to express that they are tired of seeing bones popping out of the size 0 models used in the photos....

If you've been reading my blog, you know that I don't like the phrase 'real women' because it can be discriminatory in my eyes, however, I will back NPR up in reference to this saying because Brigitte plans to use ACTUAL real women. Not necessarily 'plus size,' but the magazine plans to use it's regular readers and other prominent women in next year's photo spreads. Kudos to you: Brigitte Magazine!

SIDE NOTE: (Directed to Brigitte) PICK ME!! I want to model. ☻LOL
But seriously, if you happen to live in Germany and read the magazine regularly, you should send your picture in with a short bio. They might use you in a spread!

To all my fashionistas, the industry is changing ladies/gents. I predict a real paradigm shift in the next few years in regards to size and body image. Lots of magazines are moving towards the 'plus size' or 'real women' trend. If this trend persists, designers will follow.

Maybe sz. 8 will be the new 2! Who knows what the 2012 runways will look like. Imagine all size 8 models!!! Well let's not push it, I think couture designers would rather slit their wrists! J/K!!

Well, I'm a little late... as usual, but if you didn't know, Sheree from the 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' debuted her clothing line at New York Fashion Week last month.

After all the time she's had, I wasn't WOWed by it. For those of you who don't watch the show, Sheree tried to produce a show about two years ago, and it was a FLOP because she had NO clue what SHE was doing! ANYWAYS, she did a little more research this time and was able to show her garments.

Like Mychael Knight said; I'm tired of these NBA wives coming out with clothing lines and having fashion shows. Its just another way for them to get attention. These ladies just don't understand that a fashion line doesn't just happen. You have to do the research and you HAVE to put in work, time, and SERIOUS effort. Sheree was the classic example of how failure can and WILL happen. I'm over it.

Real Woman?

So I was watching TV the other day (a talk show), and they had people from the studio audience modeling some clothes. One model came out and she was "plus size" but not HUGE... just not thin. So the host says, this is Holly... She's a real woman, with real curves.

This sort-of thing irks me. It kinda gets under my skin when big girls are labeled "real women." What does that make me...FAKE? Umm, I think not. I'm as real as it gets.

I don't have huge curvy hips or a stomach billowing out of my pants. I just have a high metabolism. This is the way I am naturally. Just because I'm thin, it doesn't mean I'm plastic. I eat just as much as an overweight girl, maybe even more, cause I can get away with it. SIDEBAR: I am tryna eat healthier now-a-days tho. Tryna stay diabetes free!

But back to my rage: I AM A REAL WOMAN. Women of all sizes should feel comfortable in their skin, but let's not categorize ourselves. I dream of a day when women are judged, NOT by the size of their jeans, but by the content of their character!!!! MLK reference there. Hahaha, I needed to laugh and get this off my chest.

P.S. Did you know that after all her ranting and raving about SKINNY BITCHES; Monique is losing weight. She says she is doing it for her husband, who is concerned about her health, but WHATEVER. Reach Magazine TV

So its been a while, but I met a lot of people at the MAGIC tradeshow in Vegas....

These are some pretty cool people that will be hosting an up-and-coming TV show. Reach Magazine TV is a mix between pop culture and religion in my words. The hosts described the purpose of the show as "to "touch one life" with our show and to inspire youth that with God you are capable of Greatness!" James "J" Love is to the left; Sherrie-Marlene in the middle; and J.O. is on the right. Me; didn't look so hot in this pic. Wasn't really ready, but its OK! Anyway, they are each individual artists. J-Love has recorded some of mixtapes and Sherrie is an up and coming gospel/ r & b singer.

I like the concept of this show, particularly because of the message it provides. I think that we (in general society) get so caught up on material things and peer perceptions that we lose focus on our religion, and our spiritual lives and goals. These are things we should hold precedent to getting the latest clothes, 'chillin' with friends, or going to the hottest parties. One of the main things I am focusing on in my 'O so busy life' is growing in faith and gaining a stronger sense of spirituality. Life is so busy, and I sometimes forget to focus on GOD. Watching this show will help keep me focus on what is really important, while entertaining me with the latest in pop culture (music, celebrity interviews, etc.)!!

Charlotte, NC Fashion Week...Yeah it exists!!

Who knew the Queen City had a fashion week! I say (all the time) that Charlotte is the new Atlanta. It has really been blossoming into a powerful metropolitan area in the last few years, but I was completely jarred when I found out that this past week was Charlotte's "fashion week." Yeah but you can tell the city is still growing when fashion "week" lasts only three days. It was more like fashion weekend, but we all have to start somewhere! Also this is only it's second year in existence.

The shows ran from Thursday September 10th-Saturday September 12th at the Mint Museum. I found out Friday night, so I was only able to catch the Saturday show. I'm glad I made it though. If it's fashion, I'm there; and you don't get too much of it in Charlotte.

The Clothes.

Honestly, I wasn't wowed by the clothes. Some were good, but not what I would call high fashion. I had to keep telling myself, "this isn't New York fashion week." Almost all of the clothes were made well. There was one company that sent some puckered seams down the runway. Their line was more about the scarfs than the actual dresses but, in a runway show, the entire look MUST be styled and sewn well. There might have been some better fashion on Thursday & Friday that I missed. ???

Meet the models.

I must be honest and say the I was more wowed by the models, than the clothes they were wearing! Make-up was done by MAC cosmetics, and hair was done by Varji Varji Salon.

This is Jessica (age: 22); represented by E agency. When she walked the runway, I was like "I know her from somewhere." Turns out she used to work at one of my favorites stores.

Anyway, her favorite beauty product is mineral make-up by Mica Bella. I have some of their eyeshadow, and I really like it too!

This is Daira (age: 15). I think she modeled in the bridal wear segment, which I arrived late to : / !! She was very cute and sweet! Obviously young. She models for an agency called Ice. Her favorite beauty product is Colossal mascara by Maybelline. ♪Maybe she's born w/it, Maybe it's Maybelline. ♫Ha Ha

These were some models in bridal "couture." Not my idea of couture, but it fits the definition. Custom-made and fashion forward. Hey, it's Charlotte... not NY!

This is me with the director of Charlotte, NC Fashion Week, Anthony Simons. His companies (Networkz2000 & Plitzs Fashion Marketing) began the annual show last year, and plan to continually grow the event. Please believe I got the card. Must keep networking game up!

So, next year I plan to attend and work the event IF I'm not doing anything better! I could probably model as well. Hell, I could definitely fit in with the models I saw! We'll see what happens...

To the average American, I guess it would seem like "just another movie about fashion." But to me, it's a new outlet exposing me to my future. I'll use it as a learning tool! September 11th is the date. 1 day after NY fashion week begins. Wish I could be there. I actually arrive in NYC the day fashion week ends. Sucks, but I'll still have fun!

Fearlessly Pursuing My Passion

So, I went 2 Vegas for a vacation, but my trip was primarily planned around the MAGIC marketplace.

No, not Abra Cadabra magic ♠, I'm speaking of the fashion and apparel tradeshow called MAGIC. Originally meaning "Men’s Apparel Guild in California," and eventually gaining women's apparel in 1995 amid its partnership with WWD (Women's Wear Daily trade publication).

Basically MAGIC brings international buyers and vendors of men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, footwear, accessories and sourcing resources together in a venue to trade.

Had to find a way in since I couldn't volunteer like I wanted to, and it was a struggle. You are only allowed to register if you are with a company that is buying or selling at the event. Me, I was just trying to be in the environment to soak up all the information and contacts that I could. I won't say how I got registered, but just know I did! Once I got in it was like a wonderful dream. I felt like a kid in a candy shoppe with all the pretty things around me. The brands, the beauty, the merchandising, the fabulous people, the FREE stuff. OMGGG! Yea, it was great. These are a coupe of booths.▼

TIME 2 GET DOWN 2 BUSINESS!! I definitely worked my networking skills; got a few contacts. Actually, I got a lot of contacts, but I will follow up on a few good ones! I also met others like myself, very few though, that were trying to break into this crazy industry.

I attended some industry seminars that were complimentary for registered attendees. Learned some good things.

On the last day, many vendors did samples sales. OOOooo, I'm piddling in my panties just thinking about it!! I bought SOOOoooo many accessories. Like 6 pair of sunglasses, and some amazing jewelry. Too bad the clothing brands weren't sampling, I would have dropped even more cash. For that reason, I'm glad they weren't!

People watching was also a fun experience from the tradeshow. Everyone had their own personal style and since this was an event rooted in fashion, most people were dressed to the T.

Anyway, the lesson to learn from this (if there is one at all) is to go for what you want. Continue to put yourself out there, and eventually you will achieve your greatest goals. Of course, I'm not there yet, but I'm one step closer!!

Tao Asian Bistro

Located in the Venetian Hotel/Casino on the Vegas Strip. Las Vegas, NV

Atmosphere: Very modern, yet classic Asian theme. Wonderful walk-way/ foyer entrance. Large, gorgeous statues. Hues of Burgundy, brown and black. Chic, very chic. Huge lamps hanging from the ceilings. Perfectly dimmed lighting. Once getting into the dining area the tables were a little closer together than I expected, but not bad. Overall, very ZEN! ----> Me in the entrance.

Initial Treatment: We were taken to our table at the same time as another couple that arrived just after us. We were seated directly in front of the kitchen, and the other couple was taken to another, more reasonably placed, table. That was kinda fishy. We requested another table, and were taken upstairs to a better location.

Server: Very nice, explained the bulk of the menu.

Pricing: SUPER expensive, but that was expected since this is a very nice, well-known hotel on the Vegas strip. I remember seeing some celebrity, or maybe it was a reality star, go there on TV before; so I know it's well known.

Food: Glass of Sake: $11
          Wasabi crusted filet mignon (a la carte), served w/ 3 onion rings as garnish:
          $36
          Vegetable fried rice: $12
The steak was delicious, and it better have been for that price! Very moist, and seasoned just enough to take it beyond your average steak. Food came out VERY quickly after ordering (PLUS, PLUS). Yummy chocolate fortune cookies came with the check. I love fortune cookies!!

Sidebar: Went to the bakery in the Bellagio hotel/casino for dessert. It's gorgeous in there. They make the best crapes.

Recommendation: If you make it to Vegas, go to Tao for a great Asian meal, wonderful atmosphere and good service.

I want to start a business.

Not right now, in the future, but I want to start planning.

I have a few ideas of my own, but wanted to get some feedback on what you all followers/readers think would be good, current, and compatible with me.

I know most of you don't know me, but sometimes its good to get those outside unbiased views.

Of course, I like music, love FASHION, and I have a strong interest in the 'business world'.

GeEzZZ Louise, I just dropped another load of cash at Marshalls yesterday.

For those of you who are sleeping on it... WAKE UP!!

They should really be paying me to say this, but Marshalls really DOES provide designer labels at AFFORDABLE prices.

The problem is that... all those affordable prices add up. Hehe!

They have a new credit card out, but I REFUSE.

I don't do credit. Well whenever I can possibly avoid it!

I like to live by the phrase, "if you don't got it, you can't get it!"

But anyway, I just got some Michael Kors and Kenneth Cole pieces, ranging between $30-50.

I've been to the Michael Kors store. Didn't see anything worth having for under $150. Seriously.

As a matter of fact, Marshalls is beginning to carry some REALLY high-end lines.

Some I still can't afford at the Marshalls price!

Can't say the same for TJ Maxx. They are owned by the same parent company, but TJ just doesn't take me there...

Furthermore, you have to find the GOOD Marshalls in your area. There are several locations in my city, but only one is worth visiting.

I've reached a low point in my life. :(

Things aren't going exactly as I'd planned.

I graduated college 3 months ago, and haven't found a job that I would love or even like.

I've been working night & day at two jobs that seem pointless.

Moreover, I'm surrounded by people who are standing still. Goal-less, ambition-less. Content in their dead-end positions.

As much as I hate to say it. I have been losing sight of my goals and my ambition.

No more can I put my life on hold to make a few dollars$$. I gotta stay focused on who I want to be, and where I want to go. Can't STOP, won't STOP. Gotta hold on to my dreams.

Wheww, had to get that off my chest. Now back to business!

Sooo, if you didn't know... my booty isn't that big! It's not flat, but its small, especially for someone of my race. You know, we women of color are known for our voluptuous and curvy bodies. Not me, and I use to be ridiculed for it a bit. However, I'm SUPER sexy and gorgeous so its not that big of an issue!

I found a new song that represents us little booty girls, as we hold it down!

One of my favorite sites is running an interesting poll.

Shoulder pads?

a. Yes, I can't wait to pull this off.

b. No, I hate the look.

c. Shoulder pads? When did they return.

What do you think? Are shoulder pads back or even acceptable?

I say they are NOT back, cause as soon as they come back we will all be forced to watch these tacky, style-less, middle aged moms bring out their shoulder pad disasters from the late 80's and 90's.

However, if you are into fashion, shoulder pads are acceptable. Chic even, if done like Posh! Moreover, trends are trends, and style is style. If you have style then trends shouldn't faze you. Do ya thing!

Word to the wise: This is a trend that can so easily go wrong. If you're just not sure, don't try this 'possibly-arising' trend at home!
